2C paving season improves major corridors, neighborhood streets across Colorado Springs

The City of Colorado Springs highlighted progress from its 2026 paving season Wednesday, showcasing improvements to major roadways and residential streets through the voter-approved 2C Road Improvement Program.

The City delivered 147 lane miles across 119 roadway segments during this paving season, a 17% increase above what originally was planned. This continues a long-term investment in the condition of Colorado Springs' transportation network.

Major roadway improvements this season include completed paving on South Circle Drive from the Circle Drive Bridge to Airport Road, Union Boulevard from Austin Bluffs Parkway to North Academy Boulevard, and Palmer Park Boulevard from North Academy Boulevard to Circle Drive.

The remaining segment of South Circle Drive between Interstate 25 and the Circle Drive Bridge is being coordinated with a nearby Colorado Springs Utilities waterline project to avoid unnecessary construction impacts.

While major corridors are among the program's most visible improvements, 2C also continues to invest in neighborhood streets throughout Colorado Springs.

City officials highlighted that neighborhood focus during a media availability Wednesday in the Cragmoor neighborhood near the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, where residential road improvements demonstrate the program's impact beyond the city's busiest roadways.

"One of the greatest strengths of 2C is that residents can see the results of their investment throughout Colorado Springs," said Wayne Williams, representing the Mayor's Office. "Whether it's a major road connecting different parts of our city or a residential street connecting neighbors to their homes, these improvements make a difference in people's everyday lives. We're grateful to the voters who continue to support this important work."

The 2C program provides dedicated funding to improve existing roadways and adjacent concrete infrastructure, including curbs, gutters, sidewalks and pedestrian ramps. By repairing and preserving roads before they deteriorate further, the City can extend pavement life and reduce the need for more costly repairs.

"One of our responsibilities is making sure we invest in the right road at the right time," said Bryan Wilson, Public Works Operations Manager. "Every street we preserve today helps us avoid much more expensive repairs in the future while giving residents a smoother, safer drive now. That applies to major corridors like Circle Drive just as much as the streets in our neighborhoods."

Since voters first approved 2C in 2015, the program has supported thousands of lane miles of paving and significant improvements to pedestrian infrastructure. Voters renewed the program in November 2024, extending the dedicated road improvement funding through 2035 at the existing sales tax rate.

The renewed 2C program represents an estimated $820 million investment in Colorado Springs road infrastructure over 10 years.

As the 2026 paving season winds down, Public Works continues planning and coordinating future roadway improvements, using pavement condition information and infrastructure needs to guide project selection.
