Global Power Made in America: Northrop Grumman Makes it in Mississippi

Mississippi, with its rich history and strong industrial roots, plays a crucial role in America's defense manufacturing. At the heart of this defense industrial base are Northrop Grumman's facilities, which are instrumental in delivering advanced aerospace systems to support U.S. and allied nations defenses. Across four major sites, Northrop Grumman operates more than 730,000 square feet of space for manufacturing- over twelve Ole Miss football fields. These sites are more than just manufacturing plants; they symbolize collaboration with local communities and military installations, embodying a commitment to innovation and excellence.

Here's how Northrop Grumman makes global power in Mississippi:

Masters of Precision: Advanced Manufacturing at Iuka. Northrop Grumman's Iuka facility is a multi-purpose manufacturing facility producing some of the largest and most complex composite structures in the country. Advanced techniques such as automated fiber placement and automated tape laying allow for accurate placement of materials in complex patterns to reduce waste, increase reliability and shorten production times. These techniques are used to manufacture components for critical defense programs, such as the nose cap and fairing for Northrop Grumman's co-developed Eclipse rocket.

Expansive Opportunities: Curing Composites at Every Size. The Iuka site is also home to some of the largest autoclaves in the country. When creating advanced composites, one of the final steps after laying the fibers of the composite is curing or baking the materials in an autoclave, which serves like an oven. With one of the largest autoclaves in the nation, Northrop Grumman's Iuka highly skilled team can build everything from rocket fairing to large parts of an aircraft. The flexibility of size creates impressive opportunities in the future of composites.

Guardians of the Sky: B-2 Spirit Manufacturing. Northrop Grumman's Iuka facility plays a pivotal role in the development, production and maintenance of the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. Iuka maintains and modernizes the legendary B-2, ensuring the aircraft remains mission-ready as a key asset in the U.S. Air Force's fleet as evidenced in the recent Operation Midnight Hammer mission. With its significant contributions to the precision manufacturing required to build stealth aircraft, the Iuka facility underscores Mississippi's vital role in sustaining U.S. air superiority and delivering advanced military solutions.

Precision Manufacturing at Moss Point: Pioneering Unmanned Systems. The Northrop Grumman Moss Point facility supports precise and repeatable manufacturing, integration and testing of aerospace components and systems. This allows Northrop Grumman to produce reliable and safe capabilities, like the MQ-4C Triton fuselage, when failure isn't an option. Triton is the most advanced high-altitude, long-range endurance unmanned aircraft flown by the U.S. Navy and Royal Australian Air Force, is manufactured in Moss Point. Highly skilled craftsman work to ensure Triton components are built to exceed rigorous performance standards to support the U.S. and allied missions.

Economic Impact and Workforce Development: Strengthening the Community. Northrop Grumman is home to more than 800 employees in Mississippi. According to a recent study, these jobs support over 3,000 more jobs across the state, generating more than $1 billion in annual economic output, contributing to local communities across the state. The Northrop Grumman Aerospace Lab at North East Mississippi Community College in Corinth, MS will provide highly transferable skills to new aircraft mechanics-ensuring a talent pipeline for Mississippi workers looking to advance their careers and learn new manufacturing skills.

With nearly 100,000 employees and over 30 million square feet of manufacturing space - more than 500 football fields - Northrop Grumman has the capacity, scale, and agility to drive innovation at unprecedented speeds. The company'smanufacturing approach isn't just about flawless production - it was developed to accelerate and enhance the entire process from design and development to production and testing. The company has invested in U.S. infrastructure, R&D, its workforce, and supply chain to deliver the national security needs of today and for tomorrow.
