Council Nominates Members for Appointment to DCAD; Recognizes Mayor for the Day

At the October 14 meeting, Council nominated Ann Pomykal and Mike Hennefer for appointment to the Denton Central Appraisal District (DCAD) Board of Directors Place 4 and Place 7. Terms for appointed positions on the DCAD Board of Directors were redefined during a Special Session of the 88th Legislature in 2023. For the term of office beginning January 1, 2025, officers served either a 1-year or a 3-year term. Term length for each position was determined by a drawing during the first calendar meeting of 2025. As determined by the drawing, a one-year term was established for Place 4 (currently held by Ann Pomykal) and for Place 7 (currently held by Mike Hennefer). All terms thereafter shall be 4-year staggered terms. The current serving representatives expressed interest in serving another term. The nominees will be added to a comprehensive list that will be sent to the taxing jurisdictions in the form of a ballot at a later date.

During the Mayor and Council Reports, proclamations were presented for End Polio Now Week and to recognize Alexa Alonzo, a second-grade student at Heritage Elementary, as the Mayor for the Day. Additionally, Councilmember Rhonda Hurst reminded residents of the upcoming public input meeting regarding Lower Sellmeyer Park. The meeting will take place at Lower Sellmeyer Park on November 1 from 10 a.m. to noon to receive input from the community on the best recreational use of the park.

During City Manager and Staff Reports, the Village Report featured the Experience Highland Village episode focusing on Blue Mercury and informed residents of the upcoming TXFallenPD Tribute Event set for Saturday, October 18 at Doubletree Ranch Park.
