Lamberton, Nov 5 - Nine students from Red Rock Central High School Toured Highwater Ethanol yesterday to learn about renewable energy production and Minnesota's ethanol industry.
During the tour, the students learned about the various processes in ethanol production such as incoming grain grading and handling, fermentation, ethanol production and shipping as well as dried distillers grains production and shipping.
The students that participated in the tour, from grades nine to 12, were from the school's Crops and Soils class.
"We appreciate the students from Red Rock Central High School visiting our plant today. Beyond showcasing our production facilities and discussing potential career pathways, these tours offer a powerful learning opportunity for students to see how our industry actively lowers pump prices, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, boosts Minnesota's rural economies, and strengthens energy independence," said Brian Kletscher, CEO of Highwater Ethanol.
The tour was organized by the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association (MN Bio-Fuels). Highwater Ethanol is a member of MN Bio-Fuels.
Rachel Bera, agriculture instructor at Red Rock Central High School, accompanied her students for the tour.
"I think our Crops and Soils class students benefited greatly from this experience. Even though the Highwater Ethanol plant is located in Lamberton, many students have not had the opportunity to tour it. Since we have talked greatly about corn and ethanol in our class, it's fun to see the process from start to finish," she said.
