Oklo, Meta Announce Agreement in Support of 1.2 GW Nuclear Energy Development in Southern Ohio

Oklo Inc., an advanced nuclear technology company, announced an agreement with Meta Platforms Inc. that advances Oklo's plans to develop a 1.2 GW power campus in Pike County, Ohio, to support Meta's data centers in the region, including its AI supercluster in New Albany.

Orrick advised Oklo on the transaction.

THE COMPANY

Oklo Inc. is developing fast fission power plants to deliver clean, reliable, affordable energy at global scale; establishing a domestic supply chain for critical radioisotopes; and advancing nuclear fuel recycling to convert used nuclear fuel into clean energy. Oklo was the first to receive a site use permit from the U.S. Department of Energy for a commercial advanced fission plant, was awarded fuel from Idaho National Laboratory, and submitted the first custom combined license application for an advanced reactor to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Oklo is also developing advanced fuel recycling technologies in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. National Laboratories.

THE IMPACT

This first-of-its-kind transaction provides an innovative mechanism for Meta to prepay for power, providing early certainty to advance Oklo's groundbreaking Aurora powerhouse development and specifically, early funds for Oklo to secure nuclear fuel. The agreement sets a new precedent for how large energy users can partner with innovative nuclear companies to accelerate the deployment of clean, reliable power at scale.

It also paves the way for building several Oklo Aurora power plants, which will lead to the creation of thousands of jobs in both construction and ongoing operations. This initiative will help grow Ohio's clean energy workforce and bring new local and state tax revenue through investments in energy infrastructure.

THE TEAM

Teresa Hill and Jonathan Ayre led the Orrick team that advised Oklo, with support from Matthew Gluschankoff and Zachary Finley.
