Water Main Replacement Project: Alameda Padre Serra (APS) Closure at Sycamore Creek Bridge

The City of Santa Barbara will begin the final phase of construction on a water main replacement project on Alameda Padre Serra (APS) and surrounding streets starting Monday, March 23. Due to the narrow width of APS and size of the construction equipment needed to complete the work, temporary closures of APS and surrounding streets are required.

Construction activity will take place on APS from La Alturas Road to Five Points Roundabout starting March 23. Below is the anticipated sequence of work:

• APS from the Five Points Roundabout to Gutierrez Street will be fully closed 24 hours a day for the first two weeks of construction to accommodate oversized construction equipment for the installation of a pipe bridge over Sycamore Creek.
• After the first phase of the bridge work is complete, Five Points Roundabout to Gutierrez Street will have a full closure during normal working hours, but the westbound land will be open evenings and weekends.
• At the same time the work is occurring between the Five Points Roundabout to Gutierrez, a second crew will be replacing the water main on APS from Gutierrez Street to Las Alturas Road. This activity will involve road closures on APS and detours onto De La Guerra Street during normal working hours but will remain open outside of work hours.

Construction will occur 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please adhere to the traffic detours and no parking signs in the construction area. The Police and Fire Departments have been notified of the planned construction and road closure to minimize response times in the event of an emergency.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by the end of April. The construction schedule is dependent on weather and contractor progress. Inclement weather may delay the completion of the work.

The APS water main replacement is part of the City's larger goal of replacing 2% of the water distribution system annually to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of drinking water to the community.
