The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd.), presided over a Public Day Programme held last Friday (15 May) in Hanguranketha, providing an opportunity for retired military personnel and their families to present their concerns and grievances directly.
The program mainly focused on issues affecting veterans and their families, particularly matters related to housing, welfare assistance, and other service related concerns. During the discussions, special attention was given to identifying practical solutions to improve the welfare and living conditions of the veteran community.
Addressing those present, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to safeguarding the welfare of retired military personnel who have rendered dedicated service to the nation. He further emphasized the importance of maintaining close engagement with veterans and ensuring that their concerns are addressed through coordinated institutional support.
The Public Day session was also attended by Hon. MP Ranjith Wijerathna from the Nuwara Eliya district, who facilitated necessary follow up action on several key issues.
The Public Day Program formed part of the Ministry of Defence's ongoing efforts to strengthen communication with the veteran community and promote their welfare and well being.
