The City of Southfield proudly recognizes May as Chaldean American Month, celebrating the rich culture, heritage, and lasting contributions of Chaldean Americans to our city and across the state of Michigan.
As of 2026, May is officially recognized as Chaldean American Month in Michigan following the signing of House Bill 4303 by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, making Michigan the first state in the nation to establish this designation.
Southfield and the metro Detroit region are home to one of the largest Chaldean populations outside of Iraq. Chaldean Americans have played a vital role in strengthening neighborhoods, building businesses, supporting philanthropy, and enriching the cultural and economic fabric of our region.
Organizations such as the Chaldean Community Foundation and the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce continue to highlight and celebrate the traditions, achievements, and impact of the Chaldean community.
The City of Southfield is proud to recognize and celebrate Chaldean American Month.
