25 October 2025

On October 24, 2025 a ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the United Nations was held at the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society. The event was attended by representatives of state authorities, the diplomatic corps, international organisations, public associations, business, youth and the media.

On behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, deputy head of the foreign ministry, Igor Sekreta, addressed the audience, emphasising that such a grand celebration of the 80th anniversary of the UN in Belarus clearly demonstrates deep respect for the organisation and underscores its special place in our country's foreign policy priorities.

The Deputy Minister recalled that our country took its rightful place among the founding members of the UN in 1945 in recognition of Belarus' contribution to the victory over fascism and its right to speak on behalf of a people who paid a terrible price for peace and freedom.

Igor Sekreta stated that there is no alternative to the United Nations, and that its work is effective only to the extent that its members are willing to build relations based on trust, respect and the pursuit of a fair balance.

It was noted separately that Belarus is known in the UN for its creative and unifying initiatives and advocates strengthening the role of the Organisation as a unique platform for equal dialogue, the search for collective solutions and the promotion of true principles of multilateralism.

The event included a ceremony to cancel the Republic's official postage stamp commemorating the 80th anniversary of the UN, attended by the Minister of Communications and Informatisation, Kirill Zalessky, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus, Rasul Baghirov, as well as a festive concert.
