The Boise State University Foundation has named Rich Brown as associate vice president for central development and engagement, bringing more than 15 years of higher education and philanthropic experience to Boise State. He will oversee several key areas within the foundation, including alumni engagement, annual giving, corporate and foundation partnerships, signature events, planned giving, and sponsorships.
Brown joins Boise State from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, where he served as chief development and alumni relations officer. Prior to Ohio State, he held a series of increasingly senior leadership positions at the University of Kentucky and the University of Tennessee.
"Rich brings a deep commitment to higher education and a proven record of being a strong collaborator," said Argia Beristain, chief executive officer of the Boise State University Foundation. "As Boise State continues to grow its impact across Idaho and beyond, Rich's leadership, strategic vision and passion for connecting people to purpose will help us build an even stronger future for our university, our students and our community."
Brown says he is particularly energized by Boise State's upward momentum and the university's potential to continue expanding its impact throughout Idaho and the region.
For Brown, philanthropy is rooted in something larger than financial goals. "For me, fundraising is more than meeting numbers," he said. "It's about leaving something better than you found it. And if I have the abilities and interest to do so, why not?"
That philosophy has guided Brown throughout his career. He credits higher education with changing the trajectory of his own life and creating opportunities for his family.
"College gave me an education, which gave me a different profession than my parents, which gave my family different opportunities," Brown said.
Outside of work, Brown enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and their two sons, aged 6 and 8. The family is looking forward to exploring Idaho and taking advantage of the area's abundant outdoor opportunities.
Brown earned a bachelor's degree in finance and marketing from Siena Heights University and an MBA from the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee.
