ICE Boston arrests previously removed criminal alien arraigned for vehicular homicide

BOSTON - ICE Boston arrested Heriton Da Silva Aredes, a previously removed criminal illegal alien from Brazil, during targeted operations Aug. 6 in Taunton.

Aredes' criminal history includes past convictions for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, using a motor vehicle without authority, refusal to identify himself while operating a vehicle, furnishing a false name, operating recklessly and refusing identification.

"Sadly, it appears as though Bristol County Sheriff Paul Heroux followed through on his promise to not cooperate with ICE, resulting in the release of this habitual criminal illegal alien offender, who is currently charged with vehicular homicide, back into his constituents' community," said acting ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston Field Office Director David Wesling. "In fact, on three separate occasions, this criminal illegal alien was in the custody of state or local authorities, and they released him without honoring our detainer. Had any of the prior detainers been honored, lives would have been saved. While sanctuary politicians sign performative legislation to protect habitual criminal offenders like Aredes, ERO Boston will continue to prioritize the law-abiding citizens of our communities.". Had any of the prior detainers been honored, lives would have been saved. While sanctuary politicians sign performative legislation to protect habitual criminal offenders like Aredes, ERO Boston will continue to prioritize the law-abiding citizens of our communities."

Aredes' pending criminal charges include negligent homicide with a motor vehicle.

Aredes was previously removed from the United States on Oct. 14, 2008, pursuant to a final order of removal from June 2008. He illegally reentered the country on an unknown date and at an unknown location.

He first came to ICE Boston's attention following his August 2023 arrest by the Massachusetts State Police in Middleboro. He was released from custody before ICE could act.

ERO Boston next became aware of Aredes following his arrest by the Stoughton Police Department. He was again released from custody before ICE could act.

After posting bail July 25, 2026, following his arraignment for motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, the Bristol House of Corrections released Aredes without notifying ICE or honoring ICE's immigration detainer.

ICE officials arrested Aredes at-large Aug. 6.

He will receive full due process.
