The City of Hayward is inviting community members to participate in a special three-day, hands-on

The City of Hayward is inviting community members to participate in a special three-day, hands-on workshop to address traffic safety challenges and enhance opportunities for walking, biking, use of public transit as well as driving on Hesperian Boulevard. You have an opportunity to help redesign one of our major roadways in Hayward!

This in-person design charrette will take place at Chabot College Event Center, 25555 Hesperian Blvd., Building 700 South, Room 722D from Nov. 2 to Nov. 4 and is part the City's Safe Streets Hayward initiative to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries along some the Hayward's busiest streets.

Hesperian is a focus because the 4.3-mile boulevard in Hayward is a regional connector route and major bus corridor that also serves multiple schools and local industrial employers-and recorded 14 traffic fatalities and serious injuries in just five years from 2020 through 2024.

The schedule of the Hesperian Safe Streets charrette is:

  • Public Meeting: Nov. 2, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. A community meeting featuring a presentation on the project followed by an interactive activity to share ideas and priorities for the corridor.
  • Open Studio Drop-in: Nov. 3 and Nov. 4, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Community members are invited to drop in during the Open Studio to meet the project team and share input on potential designs for Hesperian Boulevard.
  • Report-back Session : Nov. 4, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The project team will have an open conversation about what it heard from community members and next steps for the draft design concepts.
