Defendant Convicted of First-Degree Shooting Murder at South Land Park Store

D'Anthony Chaney was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder with the special allegation of personally discharging a firearm causing death found true. He was also convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

On January 2, 2022, D'Anthony Chaney went into Mike's Liquor in south Land Park to buy alcohol and cigars. The victim, Terrence Lindsey, was already inside the store making a purchase. Chaney approached the counter and exchanged words with the victim, who let Chaney go in front of him in line. Chaney left the store and waited for the victim outside of the store with a 9 mm gun in his hand. When the victim exited the store, Chaney shot him seven times at close range, killing him. Chaney left the state the following morning and was arrested in Reno four days later by the Sacramento and Reno Police Departments.

Chaney faces a maximum sentence of 53 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for July 31, 2026, at 10:00 AM in Department 12B before the Honorable Ernest Sawtelle.
