Casar Leads Demand for Information from Anthropic About Security Incidents

WASHINGTON - Today, Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) led 21 members of Congress demanding OpenAI disclose additional information about the company's disclosure that Anthropic models have, in three separate incidents, hacked unsuspecting companies without Anthropic's knowledge.

In a letter to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, the members write: "While Anthropic has disclosed some information about these incidents, you have yet to release the relevant logs, and significant questions remain unanswered. Given the serious risk that frontier AI models can pose, it is imperative we have a detailed understanding of how this security incident unfolded, including any potential negligence on the part of Anthropic."

The members demand that Amodei release the logs regarding the incident and answer a series of detailed oversight questions including: whether or internal or external actors wanted the company about the risk of such an incident; why Anthropic's evaluation partner failed to detect the incident; at what point the company could have halted the incident; what steps Anthropic is taking to ensure another incident like this does not happen again; what is known about the objective of each model that hacked another company; and details about Anthropic's disclosure that Claude "tried and failed" to get real money.

The letter to Anthropic is co-led by Rep.
