JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - - Missouri Farm Bureau has announced its support for Amendment 4 and is encouraging Missourians to vote "yes" on the measure in the Aug. 4, 2026, primary election.
Amendment 4 would modify the current process for amending Missouri's Constitution through initiative petitions. While constitutional amendments currently require only a statewide majority vote for approval, Amendment 4 would also require majority support in each of Missouri's eight congressional districts. Support for this approach reflects longstanding Missouri Farm Bureau policy, dating back to at least 1985 and reaffirmed annually by delegates during the organization's December annual meeting.
"Our Constitution and fundamental rights that we hold dear as Missourians are under siege like we haven't seen before," said Missouri Farm Bureau President Garrett Hawkins. "Case in point, we don't have to look any further than what is happening in Oregon right now to see what's in store for us next in Missouri if we don't safeguard our Constitution from radical interest groups by passing this measure. Amendment 4 would raise the threshold so that urban and rural areas alike have the same opportunity throughout the process. This reform will also help guard against special interest groups pushing for radical agendas and foreign influence in our election process. Our constitution should belong to Missourians, not wealthy out-of-state interests or foreign adversaries. We have to act now to prevent what's happening in Oregon from happening here."
Amendment 4 is one of four constitutional amendments that will appear on the August 4 primary election ballot. Missouri Farm Bureau has also endorsed Amendment 1, which would renew the Parks, Soil and Water sales tax.
