Will build on robust 2026 effort to recruit and develop the next generation of energy innovators
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - October 6, 2026 - GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) today announced its goal to double the number of MIT interns and permanent hires it brings on board in 2027, a meaningful expansion of its Alliance with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that underscores GE Vernova's commitment to building the workforce of the future. The announcement was made at the MIT x GE Vernova Alliance Fall Fair, held today at Hockfield Court on the MIT campus.
"Among the students on campuses today are the engineers, innovators and future leaders who will define the next era of energy, and our job is to give more of them the opportunity to join us, grow with us, and change the world," said Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova. "MIT is one of our most important partners in that effort, and what we're building together isn't incremental - we are doubling down. We are working together to identify the very best talent and enable them to make a real impact."
The event today brings together MIT students, faculty, and GE Vernova leaders and engineers to showcase the company's research collaborations, career opportunities, and technology innovation. This year's event features 12 Alliance Year Two research poster presentations, live technology demonstrations including robotics, large voltage monitoring detection, and frontal polymerization research, and a recruiting zone staffed to support interest in 2027 internship opportunities.
GE Vernova and MIT are in the second year of their Energy and Climate Alliance, a $50 million, five-year commitment spanning breakthrough research across the entire energy ecosystem: from generating electrons to moving them around the world efficiently. Beyond research, the Alliance is designed to develop the energy sector's future workforce through fellowships, internships, and a dedicated career exploration program connecting MIT students and faculty with opportunities across GE Vernova's global teams. In 2026 the company welcomed 80 MIT interns and permanent hires.
"The energy transition will require a generation of talent that is deeply technical, globally minded, and ready to solve problems at scale," said Steven Baert, Chief People Officer of GE Vernova. "Doubling our MIT intern and hiring numbers in a single year isn't something we're doing lightly, it's a signal of how seriously we take investing in talent early, and our commitment to building career pathways that give the best and brightest a place to do the most meaningful work of their careers."
GE Vernova recruits from a wide range of universities and engineering programs across the United States and globally as part of its broader talent and workforce development strategy.
Today's announcement reflects an urgent workforce reality outlined in GE Vernova's inaugural NextGen Workforce Study: the U.S. energy sector could need more than two million workers by 2032. To meet the massive growth in electricity demand driven by AI, data centers, and the industrial electrification surge, the study finds the industry will need one in every ten engineering graduates to join the power sector. GE Vernova's expanded MIT commitment is part of a broader effort to make those pathways visible and accessible earlier.
