STATEMENT: Representative Dave Min on Supreme Court’s Ruling Upholding Birthright Citizenship

Washington, D.C. - Representative Dave Min (CA-47), a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus' Anti-Corruption Task Force, released the following statement on the Supreme Court ruling that the Trump administration's Executive Order to limit birthright citizenship is unconstitutional in Trump v. Barbara:

"Today, the Supreme Court reached the correct decision by reaffirming birthright citizenship.

But let's be clear: this should never have been considered.

Donald Trump does not get to rewrite the Constitution by executive order because he wants to decide who counts as American.

I am the product of birthright citizenship. I was born here to Korean immigrants, like generations of Americans whose families came here seeking a better life.

The fact that three Justices were willing to entertain this attack on the 14th Amendment is as disgraceful as it is un-American. It is another reminder that this Court's radical majority has become far too willing to bend the law to fit Trump's political agenda and is unfit to serve. It's long past time we overhaul the Supreme Court and rein in these unelected extremists.

Birthright citizenship is a constitutional guarantee. And we must say clearly: America must reject Trump's exclusionary vision of who belongs."
