Concord, NH - Attorney General John M. Formella announces that David Furbush, age 47, formerly of Manchester, New Hampshire, has pleaded guilty in the Strafford County Superior Court to one class A felony count of financial exploitation of an elderly adult.
The Court sentenced Mr. Furbush to serve 5-10 years in the New Hampshire State Prison, stand committed. The Court suspended two years of the minimum term for a period of 10 years following his release from incarceration. As a condition of his suspended sentence, Mr. Furbush is required to pay $86,668.22 in restitution. He is also prohibited from providing care to, or serving in any fiduciary role for, elderly, disabled, or impaired adults.
The State's investigation revealed that In June 2023, Mr. Furbush moved into his 90-year-old grandmother's home in Lee, New Hampshire to provide personal care and financial management. He served as trustee of her trust and was required to use trust assets for her benefit. Instead, between June 2023 and March 2024, Mr. Furbush stole more than $86,000 from the victim's trust bank account. He spent the money on restaurants, retail purchases, gaming, relationship websites, and adult entertainment.
Investigator Calice Couchman-Ducey of the Attorney General's Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation Unit investigated this case with the assistance of the Lee Police Department.
Senior Assistant Attorney General Bryan J. Townsend, II, and Assistant Attorney General Nancy DeAngelis, of the Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation Unit prosecuted the case. Sunny Mulligan Shea served as the victim/witness advocate.
