The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that metallizing of bridges carrying Route 8 over Winthrop Street will be performed in Torrington. This work is scheduled to occur on Monday June 22 and be completed on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Project 0065-0114 consists of metallizing of 19 Bridges along Route 8 corridor between Torrington and Colebrook.
CTDOT Project No. 0065-0114 was awarded to Allied Painting Inc. at a cost of $15,757,497.05 on 12/22/2024 and is scheduled to be completed 11/30/2027. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 4 in Thomaston.
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
Monday, June 22 to Wednesday, August 26, 2026, a lane closure will occur switching traffic from two lanes to one lane alternating traffic on Winthrop Street. Traffic control signing patterns and temporary traffic signals will guide motorists through the work zone. Temporary traffic barriers and sand barrel arrays are installed to delineate the traffic pattern and work zone. Additionally, Kinney Street will be closed at the intersection of Winthrop Street starting Monday, June 22 to Wednesday August 26, 2026. Traffic will be detoured to Brightwood Avenue.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
