EASTERN PANHANDLE, W.Va. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) traveled to the Eastern Panhandle where she made several stops and visited with community and business leaders.
First, Senator Capito visited Jefferson County Parks and Recreation where she received a briefing and went on a tour of the Phase II of the AMP at Sam Michaels Park. Phase II of this project enables the AMP to become a full-service event venue by improving the ticketing, concessions, and restroom facilities here at Sam Michaels Park. Through the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Capito was able to advocate for and secure a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) award for the project in Fiscal Year 2022.
"It was wonderful to visit Jefferson County Parks and Recreation- a project my mother was very involved in during her time as West Virginia's First Lady," Senator Capito said. "During the visit, I had the chance to see firsthand the impact of the Phase II improvements at the AMP at Sam Michaels Park, as well as how the CDS award I helped secure was put to use. This project has transformed the AMP into a full-service event venue that will better serve families, local organizations, and visitors to the Eastern Panhandle for years to come."
Next, Senator Capito traveled to Shepherdstown, W.Va. where she delivered remarks at Matt Harvey's Investiture Ceremony. Senators Capito and Justice recommended the nomination of Matt Harvey to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia last year. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 7, 2025.
"It was an honor to be a part of today's investiture ceremony for Matt Harvey. Matt has long demonstrated a strong work ethic, steady judgement, and sincere commitment to West Virginians. I am confident he will serve our Northern District with integrity and fairness, and I look forward to supporting his efforts as he takes on this important role," Senator Capito said.
