Lyndon- On Friday, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), presented Congressional Record statements to three Osage County Sheriff's deputies and a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper who were injured in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call last fall.
The four officers - Deputy Christian Moran, Corporal Clayton Hartpence, K9 Deputy James Cason of the Osage County Sheriff's Office, and Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Adam Ellis - were wounded when gunfire erupted during a response to a domestic disturbance near Carbondale, Kansas, in November 2025. All four officers were transported to area hospitals with gunshot wounds and ultimately survived the incident.
"It was a privilege to look these four heroes in the eye and say thank you on behalf of the people of Kansas. Deputy Moran, Corporal Hartpence, Deputy Cason, and Trooper Ellis ran toward danger to protect a family in crisis, and they paid a heavy price for it," said Senator Marshall. "We are grateful to God that all four survived, and we will never take the sacrifices of law enforcement for granted."
Senator Marshall recognized the officers at the 32,000-square-foot Osage County Law Enforcement Center, which opened in June 2025. The $23 million facility houses a 120-bed jail, the sheriff's office, and county dispatch operations. It also features modern technology, including touchscreen security systems, secure booking areas, and 16 dedicated mental health beds.
