Condemned Person Wesley Shermantine Dies

FOLSOM - Wesley H. Shermantine, who was serving a condemned sentence, died on Sept. 17, 2026, while incarcerated at California State Prison, Sacramento (SAC). He was 60 years old.

At approximately 6 p.m., Shermantine was pronounced deceased by a medical doctor at SAC's central health building. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office will determine his official cause of death.

Shermantine was received from Santa Clara County on May 18, 2001, and placed on condemned status for first-degree murder.

SAC opened in 1986 and houses more than 2,100 medium-, maximum- and high-security incarcerated people. SAC offers academic classes and vocational programs and employs approximately 1,500 people.
