TIME ranks UNF No. 58 among public colleges in America

The University of North Florida is recognized as one of the nation's top public higher education institutions, ranking No. 58 among 210 public colleges and universities in the inaugural edition of TIME's America's Best Colleges 2026-27.

UNF ranked No. 5 among the 12 public and private Florida colleges and universities that made the list. Overall, it ranked No. 150 among all 500 institutions recognized nationwide.

The ranking acknowledges UNF for delivering exceptional value, student success and a high return on investment. Colleges were evaluated on components such as institutional performance, resources and instructional environment, while placing particular emphasis on career outcomes, overall experience and what students gain from attending an institution relative to its cost.

UNF is seeing its highest enrollment ever this year, with more than 18,500 students enrolled. The University's emphasis on experiential learning and strong partnerships with regional employers helps connect students to career opportunities while meeting workforce needs in Northeast Florida.

For TIME's rankings, schools were evaluated across three core pillars:

• Student outcomes, assessed by what students gain from attending an institution, measured after they leave it
• Learning environment, assessed by the quality of the instructional setting and community provided to its undergraduate students
• Attractiveness, assessed by the degree to which an institution is genuinely sought after by prospective students

TIME reports that the rankings are designed to provide a meaningful and data-driven perspective on institutional performance, focusing on what schools deliver for students rather than traditional prestige indicators. The rankings were built on objective federal datasets, ensuring consistency and credibility.
