The Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), together with the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB), represented by the IsDB Institute (IsDBI), is set to host the 20th edition of its annual Islamic banking and finance conference with the support of the Central Bank of Bahrain. The two-day conference, scheduled to convene on 2-3 November 2025, will be held at Crowne Plaza, Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. This year's conference is themed "Islamic Finance in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Present Potentials and Future Prospects".
As one of the leading events in the Islamic finance industry, this year's flagship conference will bring together Shari'ah scholars, policymakers and key decision-makers to engage in high-level discussions on critical global issues affecting the industry. The event will be broadcasted live on Zoom, YouTube and other social media platforms for the benefit of a broader stakeholder base. The conference will be supported by a diverse group of partners and sponsors, including Islamic banks and financial institutions, academic and research institutions, technology firms, support service providers and knowledge-sharing platforms.
On this occasion, H.E. Shaikh Ebrahim Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of AAOIFI Board of Trustees, stated: "The 20th edition of AAOIFI-IsDB annual conference, convening in the Kingdom of Bahrain, stands as a testament to the enduring impact of this global event over the years. This year, it most notably addresses the accelerating impact of advanced technologies on financial systems and ethical finance practices. Our sincere gratitude goes to the Central Bank of Bahrain and the Islamic Development Bank for their continued support towards the overall mission of AAOIFI and the broader Islamic finance industry. We look forward for an event that fosters timely and insightful dialogue on the most pressing issues concerning the global industry."
Dr. Sami Al-Suwailem, Acting Director General of IsDB Institute, remarked: "The Islamic Development Bank remains committed to highlighting how Islamic finance can keep pace with the rapid technological changes shaping today's financial markets. It is essential to address the challenges that accompany these changes while capitalising on the embedded opportunities to support the progress of the Islamic finance industry. At IsDB Group, we place particular emphasis on equipping industry professionals and stakeholders with the necessary tools and understanding to respond to these shifts and eventually contribute to the growth of the Islamic finance industry. As artificial intelligence begins to play a more prominent role in finance at large, we are hopeful that this conference will offer a platform to discuss current issues related to AI and its applications in order to come up the much-needed guidance for the foreseen future."
Over the course of two days, the conference will feature several keynote addresses from esteemed dignitaries and policymakers, alongside five insightful panel discussions. These discussions are aimed to address the most pressing issues and latest developments across the global economy that are reshaping how Islamic financial institutions and other stakeholders respond to transformative forces, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) in multiple areas such as business operations, Shari'ah compliance and the mobilisation of human and technological resources. Panel discussions will cover certain strategic challenges including integrating AI in Islamic finance operations and services and determining the role of Islamic finance in AI-driven business and finance environment, among other relevant topics.
In conjunction with the conference, AAOIFI is also organising the 3rd edition of its Capacity Building Week, which will commence on 1 November 2025 and continue from 4-7 November 2025 preceded by special training events on Shari'ah standards on 29 and 30 October 2025.
