FPSC Approves 2026 Sunshine Water Settlement Following Comprehensive Review

After a detailed review of the record and thorough discussion, the Florida Public Service Commission (Commission) today approved the 2026 Settlement Agreement between Sunshine Water Services (Sunshine) and the Office of Public Counsel, concluding that the agreement is in the public interest.

The agreement centers on Sunshine's Mid-County wastewater treatment facility and includes approximately $24.08 million in engineering and construction costs. The Commission found support in the record for the settlement's major elements, including the project's prudence, related rate base changes, the revenue increase, and revised tariffs. The project is expected to improve environmental compliance and overall system reliability, key benefits that support the Commission's public-interest determination.

For customers, the settlement reduces the originally requested annual revenue increase from about $4.59 million to $4.3 million. The rates calculated in the agreement result in a 12.58 percent across-the-board increase to Sunshine's existing rates.

The agreement also defers recovery of certain expenses to a future proceeding, helping to limit immediate impacts on customer bills, and resolves all outstanding issues.

The new rates are expected to take effect by June 1, 2026.
