Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Uganda Fan Xuecheng Attends the Launch of UN Women Uganda Strategic Note 2026–2030

On May 20, the launch of the UN Women Uganda Strategic Note 2026-2030 was held in Kampala. Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Fan Xuecheng attended the event and delivered remarks. Mr. Aggrey David Kibenge, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions and UN agencies in Uganda, were present.

Mr. Fan said that China attaches great importance to and actively advances the development of women's causes. China upholds gender equality as a basic state policy and supports women's equal participation in economic and social development and their sharing of development outcomes. Since May 1 this year, China has granted zero-tariff treatment to 100 percent of tariff lines for products from Uganda and other African countries having diplomatic relations with China. This will create more opportunities for Ugandan products to enter the Chinese market and open up greater space for Ugandan women to engage in production and entrepreneurship. China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with Uganda and UN agencies in Uganda to deliver more practical outcomes for women and girls in Uganda.

Participants exchanged views on women's empowerment and gender equality in Uganda and jointly witnessed the launch of the Strategic Note.
