Charleston, W.Va. - Governor Patrick Morrisey has ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of former Delegate John Overington, the longest-serving member of the West Virginia House of Delegates.

"John Overington was a conservative warrior, a gentleman, and a friend to all who knew him," Governor Morrisey said. "West Virginia owes him a debt of gratitude for his impeccable public service, his positive energy, and a life well lived. A seat in Heaven awaits his arrival, and I will miss the many conversations we shared."

Delegate Overington served the people of Berkeley County and the State of West Virginia for 34 years, from 1984 to 2018. During his tenure, he became known as a thoughtful conservative voice and a steady presence in the Legislature. He also co-founded the Quad State Legislative Conference, an organization designed to foster cooperation among lawmakers in West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

Governor Morrisey's flag order applies to the Capitol Complex in Charleston and all state facilities throughout Berkeley County. Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of internment.
