During Events Across the Granite State, Senator Hassan Highlights Small Businesses, Housing, Mental Health Care, and Education

NEW HAMPSHIRE - Last week, U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan made stops across New Hampshire to meet with Granite Staters and discuss efforts to lower costs, support small businesses, expand access to housing and health care, and strengthen education and workforce development.

On Monday, Senator Hassan visited Marmon Utility, a small business in Milford that manufactures cables used to power America's electric grid. Senator Hassan also visited Labsphere, a cutting-edge photonics business in in Sutton on Tuesday, and ArborTech, a small tree care business in Gilford, on Wednesday. At each of these stops, Senator Hassan heard from New Hampshire small business owners and manufacturers about how President Trump's tariffs and illegal war with Iran are making it more expensive for them to purchase the materials and inventory that they need for their businesses. Senator Hassan is committed to reversing these reckless tariffs and lowering costs for both families and businesses.

Additionally, on Monday, Senator Hassan toured Vose Farm Residences in Peterborough, a new housing community that will help more Granite Staters find housing that they can afford, while also helping local businesses recruit and retain employees. During the visit, Senator Hassan highlighted a new report from the Joint Economic Committee - Minority, which found that New Hampshire families have had to spend an additional $1,214 on housing costs since President Trump took office - the third highest of all 50 states - and the historic passage of the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, pushed by Senator Hassan, to bring down the cost of housing.

Senator Hassan ended the day at the new Daland Memorial Library in Mont Vernon, where she met with library and community leaders who spent decades planning, fundraising for, and building the new library. Senator Hassan previously visited the library while it was under construction last year shortly after the Trump Administration abruptly terminated a $655,000 federal grant for the project. However, the library was ultimately able to use the federal funding that it had been awarded.

In the Upper Valley on Tuesday, Senator Hassan spoke with health care leaders at West Central Behavioral Health about their work to provide mental health and substance use disorder treatment to Granite Staters. At the visit, the Senator highlighted the higher costs and fewer health options that rural Granite Staters face due to President Trump and Congressional Republicans' Medicaid cuts. Senator Hassan has pushed for bipartisan legislation to support rural hospitals.

Senator Hassan then visited Enfield Village School, where she read to kindergarten students and spoke with educators about their work to strengthen childhood literacy. Senator Hassan's bipartisan Reading Excellence and Achievement for Development (READ) Act, which would improve K-12 literacy outcomes by connecting teachers with evidence-based strategies to help students read, passed out of committee last month.

At Lakes Region Community College on Wednesday, Senator Hassan toured campus and heard from the school's leadership and the Community College System of New Hampshire about the ways in which community partnerships and federal funding are being used to prepare students for successful careers in high paying fields, including through the school's automotive, electrical industry, and nursing programs.
