Vulnerable West Virginians Held Hostage by Senate Democrats as Shutdown Continues

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Governor Patrick Morrisey today announced he will expedite $1.1 million of appropriated and emergency funding to West Virginia food banks. The decision comes as vulnerable West Virginians are likely to have their November SNAP benefits delayed by the Democrat shutdown.

"While vulnerable West Virginians are being held hostage by Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats, we are going to put over a million dollars into the hands of food banks as they prepare for the fallout," said Governor Morrisey. "We're being proactive and making some early moves to make sure our state is prepared, but a simple solution is for Senate Democrats to pass a clean, bipartisan funding extension and reopen the government."

Further plans are being reviewed by the state, including options for coordinating with volunteer groups and deploying additional resources where necessary.
