Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi discusses the regional situation and support for Moldovan citizens in the UAE with his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates

4 March 2026 - Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi held a phone call with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The conversation addressed recent developments in the Middle East, including missile attacks launched by Iran against the United Arab Emirates and other states in the region, and their impact on regional security and stability. It was noted that the situation has led to the temporary closure of airspace, affecting the movement of foreign citizens, including citizens of the Republic of Moldova currently in the United Arab Emirates.

The Emirati counterpart thanked the Republic of Moldova for its solidarity and firm position in support of maintaining regional stability, and highlighted the importance of regional and international efforts to prevent further escalation.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi placed particular emphasis on the situation of Moldovan citizens in the United Arab Emirates. The Emirati side expressed its openness to provide full support to ensure their safety and to facilitate the management of the situation in the context of temporary restrictions on air transport.

At the end of the call, the two ministers reaffirmed their interest in continuing dialogue and strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the United Arab Emirates.
