Follow the money: Deb Haaland has a lot of explaining to do

IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 23, 2026

Albuquerque, NM - After following the money, it's clear that Deb Haaland is bought and paid for.

Energy Transfer, which is connected to Project Jupiter, donated to Haaland's campaign and gave $250,000 to the same PAC running attack ads against her Republican opponent, Gregg Hull. Project Jupiter plans to use natural gas-powered fuel cells for the construction of its proposed data centers in New Mexico, which raises very serious questions about pollution, emissions, and the effects on water in our state.

This is, at best, a huge conflict of interest and will totally impact the environmental oversight, if there is any at all, by a potential Haaland administration.

"Deb told New Mexicans she would put a moratorium on data centers and yet is taking money from the very organizations that are funding the green chile pipeline for the southern and northern data centers," said Interim Chairman Mike Nelson. "So who is she lying to? New Mexicans or her big out of state donors."

It is now very clear why Deb Haaland refuses to show up at important events on the campaign trail and why she refused to show up for her own televised debate two weeks ago. It's obvious that she is ashamed of her record and wants to avoid any accountability on this issue.

New Mexicans deserve answers.

We are calling on Deb Haaland to explain these ominous donations, whether she will return them, and how she would regulate this project as governor. RPNM is also calling on all New Mexico media outlets to press her campaign with tough questions about her shady political donations.

If big tech is willing to spend so much money attacking Gregg Hull, that should show everyone in New Mexico that Gregg Hull cannot be bought by special interests. As governor, the only people he will answer to are the people of New Mexico.
