Katie Pruitt Reflects On What Remains In “The Aftermath”

Today (8.21), acclaimed Americana and indie-folk singer-songwriter Katie Pruitt shares her newest single, "The Aftermath," the final preview of her upcoming album, Fools for the Fleeting.

The track, which was written by Pruitt and produced by Isaiah Beard(Jobi Riccio, Jack Van Cleaf), explores personal heartbreak against the backdrop of a world experiencing its own period of uncertainty and upheaval. Written in the wake of the end of a seven-year relationship, "The Aftermath" reflects on what remains when something meaningful comes to an end, moving between intimate reflections on loss and broader sociopolitical observations.

As Pruitt connects her own experience of heartbreak to the collective grief surrounding the current state of the country, the track ultimately leaves room for hope. "'The Aftermath' came from trying to pick up the pieces after a breakup while also living through massive cultural change," says Pruitt."We're all living in the aftermath of so much upheaval in our country, and it feels really important to find whatever little ways we can to take care of ourselves and each other."

Following the release of her ever-timely, anti-technology anthem "Little Boxes," "The Aftermath" offers the final glimpse into Fools for the Fleeting, coming September 18 via Rounder Records. Throughout the 10-track album, Pruitt looks for hope and a path forward amid an increasingly unpredictable and turbulent world. At its core, the album finds comfort in the things that remain constant: nature, community, and genuine human connection.

Ahead of the album, Pruitt is partnering with Echoes to give Nashville-based fans the opportunity to listen to the record specifically at Nashville's Shelby Bottoms Greenway, Percy Warner Park and Beaman Park. Listeners who have the app and are in the geotagged location of these park will be able to listen to the record in its entirety exclusively while they are there ahead of its September release. Plus, she's hosting a special volunteer session at Second Harvest Food Bank this Saturday (8.22). Limited spots remain; sign up here.

Fools for the Fleeting comes after the release of Pruitt's acclaimed 2024 album Mantras and her 2020 debut, Expectations. Known for her raw and emotionally resonant live performances, Pruitt uses music to create moments of vulnerability, reflection, and connection with her audiences. This fall, she'll take Fools for the Fleeting on the road for a 33-city tour - get tickets here and see the full dates below.
