State and Local Inspectors General Urge Preservation of CIGIE Fun...

Oversight Leaders Warn That Proposed Cuts Will Undermine Accountability Nationwide

In a joint letter issued today, a coalition of state and local Inspectors General expressed strong opposition to a proposed termination of funding for the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE), warning that such action would have "ripple effects" on independent government oversight across the country.

The signatories include New York State Inspector General Lucy Lang, along with the Inspectors General of Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Montgomery County (Maryland), the City of Atlanta, and the Chicago Park District.

The letter, addressed to Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, highlights how CIGIE's work helps standardize best practices, foster innovation, and strengthen public trust in government institutions.
