Request for Proposal: Disease Intervention Apprenticeship

September 24, 2025

ASPPH is seeking member responses to a new Request for Proposal (RFP) for Developing a Disease Intervention Apprenticeship Program Aligned with National Standards and the Certified in Disease Intervention Credential. ASPPH members would collaborate in support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Certified in Disease Intervention Project. The Project contributes to CDC's workforce capacity efforts to improve public health services provided to communities by disease intervention (DI) professionals. Intentions to submit a proposal are due by 5:00 PM ET on October 10, 2025.

Objective

The purpose of this Request for Proposal (RFP) is to identify a CEPH-accredited, ASPPH-member school or program of public health to collaborate in support of the CDC's Certified in Disease Intervention Project. In cooperation with ASPPH and the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE), the CDC is developing a voluntary disease intervention specialist certification program called Certified in Disease Intervention (CDI).

The primary objective of this RFP is to identify and partner with an ASPPH member institution to:

  • Conduct a feasibility study for a DI Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP), evaluating the need, demand, and potential impact on strengthening the DI workforce pipeline, and;
  • Design, develop, and register a RAP for DI professionals that aligns with national apprenticeship standards and the CDI credential, informed by findings from the feasibility study.

By meeting these objectives, the selected institution will play a critical role in advancing public health capacity and ensuring a resilient, responsive, and well-trained DI workforce nationwide.
