JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Westbound U.S. Route 54 over the Moreau River Drainage , south of Jefferson City, is now open. Bridge rehabilitation work wrapped up Thursday, Sept. 25, allowing traffic patterns to return to normal ahead of schedule.
Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation narrowed westbound U.S. Route 54 over t he Moreau River Drainage to one lane on Aug. 11. The lane closure was necessary to apply a protective coating to the substructure, and to repair and overlay the bridge deck. Additional substructure repair work was completed prior to the lane closure, in attempt to minimize traffic impacts. While this rehabilitation work was originally expected to continue into October, the contractor was able to complete the work a couple weeks early.
U.S. Route 54 remains narrowed to one lane in a head-to-head configuration at the Neighorn Branch. Construction crews are in the process of replacing the eastbound bridge, which is expected to wrap up as soon as Friday, Sept. 26. Once complete, crews will transition to rehabilitation work on the westbound bridge, with traffic again narrowed to one lane in a head-to-head configuration.
