I-90 ramp closures and detours in CDA Start Monday
COEUR d'ALENE - The Idaho Transportation Department is beginning work to reconstruct on- and off-ramps at both the U.S. Highway 95 and Northwest Boulevard interchanges as part of the ongoing Interstate 90 expansion between Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls.

This work requires demolishing existing ramps and reconstructing them to meet modern engineering standards. Construction will also allow ramps to handle growth and be compatible with future roadway expansion.

Two temporary, week-long I-90 ramp closures are planned in sequence:

• US-95 westbound on-ramp to I-90, starting May 4
Primary Detour: Drivers will use Appleway Avenue to access I-90 at Northwest Boulevard. (Map)
• I-90 westbound off-ramp to Northwest Boulevard, starting May 11
Primary Detour: Drivers will exit I-90 at US-95 and use Appleway Avenue to access Northwest Boulevard. (Map)

All closures will be in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the duration of each closure period. Much of this work, especially paving, is weather dependent, so rain or other inclement weather may shift timelines for these closures unexpectedly.

As two of the most heavily traveled interchanges on the corridor, ITD anticipates significant increases in congestion and delays in the surrounding area during these closures. While official detour routes will be posted locally on roadway signs, and are also available on Idaho 511, drivers are strongly encouraged to use any convenient alternative access points to or from I-90 to help distribute traffic across the corridor and reduce the burden on any single interchange. Spreading travel across available access points, including the:
• 4th Street interchange
• 15th Street interchange
• Sherman Avenue interchange, or
• SH-41 interchange in Post Falls, for those making longer regional trips
will help keep the system moving better for everyone.

Through traffic on I-90 should keep left to allow space for all vehicles to safely merge.

In addition, the Centennial Trail will be closed between Prairie Trail and Northwest Boulevard beginning the week of May 11 to accommodate I-90 widening construction and city waterline improvements. Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be detoured via Riverstone Drive. This phase of work is anticipated to be completed by mid-July. (Map)

The I-90 widening project will expand the corridor to four lanes in each direction, improve safety, and reduce congestion along one of North Idaho's busiest routes. Construction is expected to continue through 2029.
