Hong Kong did not have any policy changes to regulations pertaining to genetically engineered (GE) products since the 2025 Agricultural Biotechnology Annual report. GE products are subject to the same food regulations as conventional foods. Hong Kong does not impose barriers on microbial biotech ingredients/foods. However, it does maintain production and import controls on living modified organisms. Hong Kong labeling requirements for GE foods are voluntary and there is limited Hong Kong government (HKG) or private sector research on agricultural biotechnology. Meanwhile, Hong Kong has become one of the first market in the region to sell cultivated meat and a growing fundraising hub for agri-biotech companies.
