[Link]Houston, Texas, July 9, 2025 - SHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management), the trusted authority on all things work, workers and the workplace awarded a 2024-2025 Superior Merit Awarddesignation to the SHRM student chapter of Houston Christian University (HCU) for providing superior growth and development opportunities to its student members.

The SHRM Student Chapter Merit Award program encourages the development of more effective student chapters and distinguishes outstanding activities and projects. Chapters are recognized based on operations, chapter programming and professional development of members, support of the human resource profession, and SHRM engagement.

"The members of our SHRM student chapters embody the future of HR leadership, making it essential to recognize the pivotal role they play in SHRM's ongoing success," said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, SHRM president and CEO. "The dedication and achievements of SHRM Student Chapter of Houston Christian University demonstrate that the profession's future is in capable and inspired hands. I commend their accomplishments and their ability to drive innovative programming, professional development, and a growing interest in HR as we adapt to the evolving dynamics of the workplace."

SHRM student chapters have the opportunity to earn an award based on the number of activities they complete during the merit award cycle, the most recent one of which lasted from May 1, 2024, to April 30, 2025.

The SHRM Student Chapter at Houston Christian University (HCU) had a fulfilling and eventful 2024-2025 academic year, marked by a series of well-executed initiatives that enriched the student experience and fostered professional development. The chapter kicked off the new academic year by participating in HR Houston sponsored HR Mixers and the upcoming Gulf Coast Symposium. The chapter has also been actively involved in GO Orientation sessions, welcoming new students to campus and introducing them to SHRM. Looking ahead, the chapter will host its annual signature event, the HCU SHRM Legacy Soirée, on October 2, 2025, as part of a broader lineup of exciting programs and services planned for the academic year. The chapter is advised by Dr. April Kinchen, and the 2024-2025 student leadership team included President Lyssa Ann Buerano, Vice President Delaynee Puente, Secretary Eunice Martinez, Treasurer Paola Castillo, and Student Ambassadors Andy Soliman, J'La Harris, Stephanie Abraham, and Luis Alejandro Sandoval Marroquín.
