Statement from Portland Mayor Keith Wilson and City Council President Jamie Dunphy

Today in Minneapolis, we witnessed another violent death at the hands of federal law enforcement agents. This is the latest deadly result of an administration that uses American cities as a "training ground" for "full force." We have warned, over and over, that this would be the consequence of federal chaos, irresponsibility, and hateful rhetoric, and once again we are proven tragically right. We cannot accept the federal government's current approach, which is undermining safety and costing human life.

Calm and purposeful does not mean passive. We stand with Minneapolis as communities bound by a belief in dignity, justice, and the protection of every person's humanity. We call on ICE to end these deadly operations and recognize the constitutional rights of all. We are strongest when we show up for one another, and when we provide aid to one another. We ask those making their voices heard in the aftermath of this horrific tragedy to do so peacefully. We will share more when we can.
