State Representative Amy Grant Responds to Gov. Pritzker's FY2027 Budget Request

February 19, 2026

SPRINGFIELD, IL - In her final year as a lawmaker, State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) is responding to Gov. Pritzker's FY2027 Budget request, which he presented to a Joint Session of the General Assembly on Wednesday February 18th.

"When I first came to Springfield in 2019, the state budget was about $38.5 billion. As I prepare to place my final budget vote before retiring, the FY2027 Budget request has grown to roughly $56.032 billion. That is almost a 50% increase in just over seven years" said Rep. Grant.

"During that same time, Illinois' population has barely changed - growing by about 0.4%, from approximately 12.67 million to 12.72 million residents. Most of that modest growth is due to recent international migration, offsetting the many Illinois families who have chosen to leave our state because they could no longer afford it"

Grant continued: "You cannot justify a 50% increase in spending when our population is essentially flat and working families are struggling with higher costs of living. Illinois taxpayers deserve a responsible, balanced budget that prioritizes core services, while reducing spending.

I remain committed to using my last year in the State House to advocate for a sustainable budget that protects taxpayers, reverse the damage done by bad public policy to our economy"
