Trump’s Billionaire-First Budget Shutters Health Clinics in Rural Virginia While Earle-Sears and Virginia Republicans Remain Silent Arrow

New reporting this week revealed three rural health clinics in Virginia will close because of the passage of Trump and Republicans' billionaire-first budget that rips health care away from working families and jeopardizes rural health care access, while Republicans like Winsome Earle-Sears praise Trump's attacks on working families.

A reminder: Winsome Earle-Sears has had multiple opportunities to condemn these rural hospital closures but has refused every time. She endorsed Trump's billionaire-first budget that's devastating rural hospitals and jeopardizing the health care of hundreds of thousands of Virginians.

In response to the news of the impending clinic closures in rural Virginia and Winsome Earle-Sears' silence, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

"Donald Trump and Republicans knew their billionaire-first budget would destroy nursing homes and shutter the rural hospitals and health care systems that countless families rely on. But as long as their billionaire buddies got a tax cut, they didn't care. Republican gubernatorial nominee Winsome Earle-Sears endorsed Trump's billionaire-first budget that has now led to the loss of three health care clinics in rural Virginia. No Virginian can trust Earle-Sears to be governor when she's all too fine with her own constituents losing health care. While Republicans like her enable Trump's reckless agenda that has destroyed jobs, spiked costs, and closed rural hospitals, Abigail Spanberger and Virginia Democrats are offering real leadership - where working families are the priority, not corrupt billionaires."

Virginia has been devastated by Donald Trump and Republicans' reckless agenda. Since Trump took office:

  • Unemployment rates in Virginia have skyrocketed, and Virginia has dropped in America's top states for business rankings, thanks to Trump's reckless layoffs and funding freezes.
  • The health care of more than 350,000 Virginians has been placed in jeopardy.
  • Nearly 535,000 Virginians could see their health care premiums increase significantly.
  • At least six rural hospitals in Virginia are now at risk of closure.
