Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today with Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines Maria Elena Palo Algabre, who covers the Republic of Serbia on a non-residential basis from Hungary, with whom he discussed the improvement of bilateral relations and strengthening of Serbia's cooperation with the Southeast Asian region.
Assessing that relations between Serbia and the Philippines are characterised by friendship, mutual respect and esteem, Đurić emphasised that there is a mutual interest in intensifying political dialogue and deepening cooperation in numerous areas of mutual interest.
The head of Serbian diplomacy particularly highlighted the importance of improving economic cooperation and increasing trade, emphasising that significant potential exists in the areas of new technologies and innovation.
Speaking about Serbia's cooperation with Southeast Asia, he reiterated that our country is strongly committed to developing relations with the countries of that region, with full respect for the central role of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and congratulated the Philippines on its successful chairmanship of ASEAN this year.
Đurić stated that Serbia's commitment to strengthening ties with this region is based on the principles of mutual respect, sovereignty, territorial integrity and shared prosperity, expressing his belief that there is room for further strengthening cooperation with both the Philippines and other ASEAN member states.
During the talks, the head of Serbian diplomacy expressed his expectation that the Philippines would confirm its participation in the Specialised Expo 2027 in Belgrade, assessing that it would be an exceptional opportunity for this country to present its rich cultural heritage, sports successes and development potential at one of the most important international events, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
