FEMA Mobilizes to Support East Coast States in Response to Nor’easter

Regional Response Coordination Centers activated as storm threatens coastal flooding and power outages

WASHINGTON - FEMA and DHS are closely coordinating with state, local and tribal partners in response to the nor'easter expected to impact the East Coast and Northeast through the weekend. President Trump and the Administration are committed to supporting the safety and security of families and communities across the nation.

The storm system is forecasted to generate damaging winds, dangerous surf, heavy rainfall and significant coastal flooding from the Mid-Atlantic through New England. State and local governments maintain the lead in preparing for and responding to severe weather emergencies. Governors in New York and New Jersey have already declared states of emergency, while emergency management agencies in Delaware and Maryland have increased their monitoring and readiness postures.

In response, FEMA regional offices in the affected areas have raised operational readiness levels, placed specialized personnel on standby and activated regional coordination centers. FEMA leadership and regional liaisons remain in direct, continuous communication with state emergency management officials, local officials and members of Congress across the affected regions.

"Our priority is ensuring that our state, local and tribal partners have the resources and coordination necessary to keep communities safe," said FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton. "FEMA's regional offices are operating at an enhanced posture and will continue to provide dedicated support as the situation evolves."

Federal Operational Posture and Staged Assets

• Regional Operations: FEMA Region 1 (New England), Region 2 (New York and New Jersey) and Region 3 (Mid-Atlantic) have activated their Regional Response Coordination Centers to track the storm, coordinate federal interagency support and respond to potential state requests. Regional watch centers are operating under enhanced monitoring schedules.
• Incident Management Personnel: Highly trained regional and national Incident Management Assistance Teams (IMATs) are on standby, ready to deploy immediately to state emergency operations centers if requested.
• Power and Infrastructure Support: FEMA Region 1 is coordinating with emergency power specialists and has prepared emergency generators and technical assessment teams to deploy if widespread electrical outages occur.
• National Watch Center: FEMA headquarters has elevated its National Watch Center to an enhanced watch posture to maintain continuous situational awareness for both the East Coast nor'easter and response operations for Hurricane Nolo in Hawaii.

FEMA's ongoing coordination with state leadership remains critical to protecting public safety and ensuring a unified response.
