Construction to begin tomorrow on SH-21 Mores Creek Bridge

BOISE - The Idaho Transportation Department will begin rehabilitation work tomorrow, Sept. 11, on the Mores Creek Bridge on State Highway 21.

Crews will work on one half of the bridge at a time, allowing the bridge to remain open throughout construction. Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled by temporary traffic signals or flaggers at each end of the bridge. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes during construction hours. Wide loads will be required to use SH-55 to reach Lowman/Idaho City during construction. Construction is expected to continue for approximately nine months.

Crews will clean and paint steel components of the bridge to prevent corrosion, replace seals in the bridge deck to keep water out, repair aging concrete and address erosion around the bridge.

Regular maintenance and preservation work helps extend the life of existing infrastructure and delays the need for full replacement. Originally constructed in 1953, the bridge has undergone several maintenance and preservation projects over the years. Through these repairs, ITD anticipates extending the service life of the Mores Creek Bridge by approximately 26 years.
