Denver - Friday, June 19, 2026 - The Denver Police Department announces the arrest of 35-year-old Joseph York (DOB: 01/18/1991) for a homicide that occurred on June 7, 2026, in the area of East Colfax Avenue and North Dahlia Street.
On Sunday, June 7, 2026, at approximately 3:24 a.m., Denver Police officers responded to a reported shooting in the area of East Colfax Avenue and North Dahlia Street. Upon arrival, officers learned that a victim was transported to the hospital suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim, 25-year old Elijah Barr, was later pronounced deceased.
Through a thorough investigation that included interviews and review of surveillance video, investigators identified Joseph York as the alleged suspect in this case. He was arrested on Thursday, June 18. He is being held for Investigation of First-Degree Murder. The investigation revealed the victim and suspect were engaged in a verbal altercation prior to the shooting.
Per standard protocol, the final determination of charges will be made by the Denver District Attorney's Office.
