Since 2016, home prices in Reno have risen by 93 percent, creating significant challenges for housing options. According to the dashboard, Reno will need at least 15,000 new homes over the next decade, including 9,000 affordable units, to meet population and household income needs. These units are considered affordable for households earning below 80 percent of the area median income (AMI).
"We're excited to launch this new housing dashboard, which gives our team a clearer, more accurate picture of Reno's housing market across all income levels and the gaps that exist," said Reno City Manager Jackie Bryant. "This dashboard represents a significant step forward in the City's ongoing commitment to working with our partners to expand housing opportunities for the Biggest Little City."
Currently in Reno, based on a household that earns $50,000 a year, attainable monthly rent is approximately $1,250 a month. There is also demand for more home ownership opportunities for households with monthly mortgages between $2,500 and $3,750 a month.
Residents, housing partners, and stakeholders are encouraged to check out the new Housing Dashboard to see where Reno stands when it comes to housing. The dashboard can be found on the City's Housing and Neighborhood Development page.
