MTA Announces Flood Door Testing at Hugh L. Carey and Queens Midtown Tunnels Scheduled for Overnights from Thursday, April 30, to Sunday, May 31

MTA Bridges and Tunnels today announced a series of overnight flood door tests in the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel (HLCT) and Queens Midtown Tunnel (QMT) as part of preparations for potential hurricanes or tropical storms.

Each of the 20-plus ton steel flood doors can only be deployed when the tunnel tube is fully closed to traffic. During the following times, one tube of the tunnel will be closed. One lane will be open in each direction in the remaining tube.

Thursday, April 30, into Friday, May 1 (9:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m.): HLCT Brooklyn West Tube

Friday, May 1, into Saturday, May 2 (11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.): HLCT Brooklyn East Tube

Thursday, May 7, into Friday, May 8 (9:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m.): HLCT Manhattan East Tube

Friday, May 8, into Saturday, May 9 (11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.): HLCT Manhattan West Tube

Queens Midtown Tunnel

Saturday, May 16 (12:01 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.): QMT Queens North Tube

Sunday, May 17 (1:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.): QMT Manhattan North Tube

Saturday, May 30 (12:01 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.): QMT Manhattan South Tube

Sunday, May 31 (1:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.): QMT Queens South Tube
