The head of the Executive, accompanied by the Minister for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, and the Government Delegate, José Luis Quintana, was able to check the state of the works being carried out on the first section of the extension of the A-58, corresponding to 13.6 km between Cáceres and the Ayuela River, with an investment of 100 million euros.
The new route will improve the connection between the two provincial capitals and make road transport more efficient, thus reinforcing the territorial cohesion of Extremadura and contributing to a more balanced and sustainable territorial development. It will also provide a strategic alternative to the A-5 motorway for traffic from Portugal heading to the north of the peninsula and Europe.
Since June 2018, the Government has invested €317.7 million and tendered €455.6 million, using funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), for the creation and improvement of the road network in Extremadura. Works currently underway on the state road network in Extremadura include the first section of the A58 visited today; the Zafra bypass on the N-432 and the Malpartida de Cáceres bypass on the N-521; the improvement of the southern access to Badajoz on the N-432; and the new bridge in Cabezuela del Valle on the N-110.
