Work begins Sept. 8 on southbound US-131 bridge over northbound US-131 in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing approximately $1 million to improve the southbound US-131 bridge over northbound US-131 at I-196 in Grand Rapids. Work includes substructure improvements, steel beam repair, barrier wall reconstruction and approach work.

Traffic restrictions:
Single and double-lane closures will be in effect throughout the project on southbound US-131 from Ann Street to I-196. The following two ramps are scheduled to close Sept. 8:

• Eastbound I-196 Exit 77A to northbound US-131.
• The Pearl Street entrance ramp to northbound US-131.
• The Leonard Street/Turner Avenue entrance ramp to southbound US-131 is scheduled to close Sept. 24.

Jobs numbers:
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support eight jobs.

Safety benefit:
This investment will repair and improve the bridge to further extend its service life.
