Cathedral City’s Discover Digest

We're Planning a New Community Center - We Want Your Ideas!
Exciting news: the City is taking the first steps toward building a new Community Center - a space for learning, recreation, gathering, and growth. But before plans are drawn or walls go up, we want to hear from you - the people who will use it.
Cathedral City has launched a Community Center Feasibility Study to explore potential locations, assess community needs, and analyze costs of new construction verses reuse of existing facilities. The community center will be possible due to the passage of Measure W, which voters approved with strong support (74%) to invest in projects that benefit our neighborhoods.
The feasibility study is scheduled for completion by December 2025. One critical component of the study is resident input. That's where you come in.
We Need Your Voice: What Do You Want to See?
A meaningful, vibrant community center is more than a building - it's a reflection of community priorities. As we move forward, your feedback will help shape:
  • Programs & Activities
What kinds of offerings would you like to see? Some possibilities include:
    • After-school programs, tutoring, or homework help
    • Fitness classes, dance, or yoga
    • Art, music, or makerspaces
    • Senior programs and social clubs
    • Health & wellness workshops (nutrition, mental health)
    • Cultural events, performances, lectures
    • Community meeting rooms, film screenings, hobby group
  • Spaces & Facilities
What spaces would make the center truly useful and flexible? Some ideas:
    • Multipurpose halls / gymnasium
    • Classrooms / studios for smaller groups
    • Flexible meeting rooms
    • Computer labs / tech / digital media rooms
    • Arts & crafts / maker spaces
    • Kitchen / community kitchen
    • Outdoor patios, gardens, or gathering plazas
    • Lounge / café space
    • Spaces for seniors, children, families
  1. Take the Survey
The city has launched a bilingual (English/Spanish) survey so every resident can share ideas, priorities, and preferences. You can find it online at the link provided by the city surveyhero.com/c/cathedralcitycommunitycenter
  2. Stay Connected
Watch for updates, announcements, and outreach efforts on city social media, newsletters, and the city website at https://www.cathedralcity.gov/residents/parks/community-center-feasibility-study
  3. Community Meetings / Workshops
We have brought out our pop-up kiosks to recent events. Our next in-person event will be on October 7 at Movies in the Park: Spooktacular Cinema Night from 6-9pm at the Cathedral City Community Amphitheater. There are also self-serve kiosks at the Cathedral City Library and Cathedral City Senior Center where residents can register their opinions.
Why Your Feedback Matters
  • The study is designed to be inclusive and responsive to residents, local stakeholders, and agency partners.
  • Your input will help ensure the center reflects the real needs, interests, and aspirations of our community - now and for generations to come.
  • Decisions about location, layout, programming, and funding will depend heavily on what people tell us now.
Thank you for being part of this vision-building process. This center is for you, by you - your voice now will shape the place where neighbors meet, children learn, and memories are made. Keep an eye out for updates and opportunities to get involved. Together, we can create a community center we'll all be proud of.
